Graduate Programs

Evolutionary Biology Graduate students at the UW are distributed among several departments and programs but come together through seminars, the Evolution Discussion Group and the Evolution Reading group.

For Prospective Graduate Students

Prospective graduate students should identify a couple of possible advisors (see the faculty directory) and then contact them about which program would be the most appropriate. We provide some guidelines for making such contact and provide links to the graduate programs below.

Minor

The University of Wisconsin is unusual in requiring that all Ph.D. students take a minor, comprising at least ten credits of course work that is approved by the minor advisor and thesis committee. We encourage evolutionary biology students to take a minor in Evolutionary Biology until such time as the major is formalized. We recommend that students not only take courses in evolution per se, but also make an effort to get involved in K12 outreach efforts.

Courses

The working group is in the process of building a database of relevant courses. The current version of this list can be accessed here.
